~FINAL FLASH LIT COLLECTIVE OPPORTUNITY OF 2021~
Hello writers, poets, and storytellers! Welcome to Flash Lit. Three times a year, in February, June, and October, we throw caution to the wind and write short pieces just for fun (and bragging rights)(and to practice publishing our work)(and to beef up our blogs).
We call it The Flash Lit Collective.
Every three days, I post a new prompt with a 3-day deadline. You take that prompt and write a short story, poem, slice of narrative non-fiction, song lyrics — whatever floats your boat. You work your magic in up to 500 words and post your piece on your blog. Then you drop the link in the Facebook group. We take that link and publish your story on your own page on this website, under The Flash Lit Collective. Of course we link back to your blog and the rights to your work remain yours.
What if you don’t have a blog? Make one. Blogs are super easy nowadays and we’re only looking for basic here. But they are time-consuming to set up, so if you’re hot to write Flash Lit but are concerned about having to make a blog, reach out to our resident writing + creativity coach Bronwyn Emery for our members-only solution. Email: email@example.com.
What if you’re not on Facebook? That’s easy, too. Drop the link and a few words about yourself into an email and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org, subject line: Flash Lit October – (prompt) – (your last name).
Whether you’re on Facebook or off, you will be able to find many of the member writer pieces on this site by the end of the month. Remember to read what others are writing! There’s some really good stuff coming out of To Live & Write … Wherever You Are and The Flash Lit Collective.
When you share your lit you give permission for us to share it in turn across our social media, which includes, but is not limited to, this website, our Facebook group To Live & Write … Wherever You Are, and Bronwyn Emery’s Instagram account @bronwynemery.coach and Facebook pages.
If you write along with us, you will have 10 short stories or poems or essays or cartoons or whathaveyou to brag about by the end of the month. Members of The Flash Lit Collective who have participated in each of the 2021 Flash Lit months will have as many as 30 new pieces in their portfolios before the end of the year.
How scary is that? So scary, it’s exhilarating! You might actually have proof you’re a writer (in case you didn’t before) and a stash of stories, poems, blog posts, or narrative non-fiction pieces to show off. Hey. You might even have the beginnings of a collection or memoir to work into something publishable. Fancy that.
