Hello writers, poets, and storytellers! Welcome to The Flash Lit Collective. Three times a year, in February, June, and October, members of To Live & Write throw caution to the wind and write short pieces just for fun (and bragging rights)(and to practice publishing our work)(and to beef up our blogs).
Across each Flash Lit month, our resident writing + creativity coach Bronwyn Emery posts one prompt at a time and gives us three days to write a short story, poem, narrative non-fiction, song lyrics — whatever we’re inspired to write. We work our magic in up to 500 words and publish on our own blogs. Then we drop the link in the Facebook group and she adds it to our individual pages here.
We have been enjoying Flash Lit months since October, 2018 and just decided in 2021 to share our work in a collection here.
What if you don’t have a blog? Make one. Blogs are super easy nowadays and we’re only looking for basic here. But they can be time-consuming to set up, so if you’re hot to write Flash Lit and don’t want to be delayed by tech stuff, reach out to Bronwyn for our members-only solution. What if you’re not on Facebook? That’s easy, too. Drop the link and a few words about yourself into an email and send it to info@toliveandwrite.org, subject line: Flash Lit (month) – (prompt#) – (your last name). Example: Flash Lit October – Prompt 1 – Emery.
Whether you’re on Facebook or off, you will be able to find many of the member Flash Lit stories on this site by the end of each Flash Lit month. Remember to read what others are writing! There’s some really good stuff coming out of To Live & Write … Wherever You Are. Click on the each writer’s card below to find your way to their flash lit collection.
When you share your lit, you give permission for us to share it in turn across our social media, which includes but is not limited to this website, our Facebook group To Live & Write … Wherever You Are, and Bronwyn’s Instagram account @bronwynemery.coach and Facebook pages.
If you write along with us, you will have 10 short stories or poems or essays or cartoons or whathaveyou to brag about by the end of the month. Do it each Flash Lit month of the year and you will have 30 (thirty!) pieces in your portfolio before the end of the year.
How scary is that? So scary, it’s exhilarating! You might actually have proof you’re a writer (in case you didn’t before) and a stash of stories, poems, blog posts, or narrative non-fiction pieces to show off. Hey. You might even have the beginnings of a collection or memoir to work into something publishable. Fancy that.
